Burn It Down

The humble beginnings of BURN IT DOWN can be traced to January 1997 when the Ice Nine nucleus of John Zeps (guitar), Todd Guillon (bass), and Scoth (drums) hooked up with friend Ryan Downey (vocals) who shared their interest in playing music for the love of music. Within two weeks the quartet wrote a few short songs and began playing locally even though they were still without a name. They booked studio time and recorded a demo which would eventually be pressed to CD and seven inch by the Uprising label. It clearly displayed their raw, discordant musical approach and spiritually charged message. Before the CDEP's official release, Scoth was replaced with current drummer Brian "Bob" Fouts (ex With Authority). The band went through a slew of bassists before finally settling on Jason McCash, who was replaced during the year of 1998 by California transplant John Johnson, but has since returned to the band. BURN IT DOWN brought their physically and emotionally intense performances to every basement, club or warehouse that would have them, sharing stages with Kiss It Goodbye, Unsane, Brother's Keeper, Sloppy Seconds and many more. In January of 1998 the band began writing again with a renewed vigour while continuing to play live at every opportunity. A return to the studio in late spring of '98 produced "Eat Sleep Mate Defend" on the brand new Escape Artist label (www.loudnet.com/escapeartist) who have since released Eps from Isis and Todd Guillion's new band Time In Malta. The MCD has received rave reviews in Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer and Hellfrost as well as more "hardcore" oriented publications like Hanging Like A Hex. Immediately after recording, the quartet hit the road for a two week run of dates with Zao in the Southeastern U.S. The tour was completed with two hometown appearances opening for Six Feet Under and Metallica. The band has since shared stages with Morbid Angel, Coalesce, Nile and Gwar, as well as appearances at the most recent Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Chicago hardcore festivals, as well as Krazy Fest Too. In the spring of 1999, Burn It Down recorded three songs for the split Ep with Racetraitor "Make Them Talk" (Trustkill), displaying a much more dynamic and polished sound without relenting on their intense spiritual/ power violent metallic approach. In June, the band did a string of dates with Isis and Cave In throughout the Northeast. Burn It Down plans to release their debut full length recording in the fall of 1999.
